UNESCO is dedicated to promoting the free flow of ideas by word and image. To achieve this, our Communication and Information Sector is engaged in various activities in Tanzania:

We support initiatives that contribute to the promotion of freedom of expression, such as the commemoration of World Press Freedom Day, and support for the review of policies and laws that promote freedom of expression. For further details on freedom of expression, please click here.

In the area of Media Development, we contribute to capacity development of Media Professionals in public, private and community media. UNESCO also supports rural economic development efforts by assisting local communities to set up rural community media projects. We also engage in initiatives related to media policy review and development. For more information on media development, please click here.

We promote access to knowledge and information by developing capacities for the preservation and digitization of national heritage, including through digital library development and management. Please read more
