5.9 million listeners benefited from access to voters education through a UNESCO & UNDP supported prgramme in 2010UNESCO promotes access to knowledge and information through initiatives that promote the use of Free Open Source Software (FOSS), for universal access to and preservation of documentary and audiovisual heritage. We also promote lifelong learning through programmes that support people to make informed judgments from the information that they interpret on a daily basis, skills known as information literacy.

We recognize that having inclusive societies is only possible through dialogue and unfettered access to knowledge. To achieve that, we promote access to quality education, culture and the sciences through ICTs and media.

We also support strategies that lead to the development of libraries for the promotion of public access to knowledge and information, including through academic and research communities, people with special needs, and other specialized groups.
